I have not had very many students with disabilities during my time of teaching. When I taught elementary musicI had a student who was autistic but high functioning. Although he was highly funtional there was still the problem with his attention span and focus on the days lesson. I found that he was very rhythmically gifted so I would always try to have some type of percussion instrument for him to play during the lesson. The use of percussion helped keep him on task and also to learn the lesson with the rest of the class. |

I have found success with peer partner strategies. My chorus students who have difficulty with the music learn faster being able to work with a peer. Pairing up these students give the slower learner more confidence in learning their part and singing out. I have also found that reflection strategies helps not just my slower learners but also the class as a whole. In band (this covers strategy and technology) I record our playing to get immediate feedback from my students. The ability to reflect on what they have just played helps all learners to be able to critique and correct what had just been played. |

I have used solfege in the past with students instead of written music. I have also used different instrumentation with students that have had a short term physical disibility. In assessment I always give multiple opportunities for students testing. this gives them the opportunity to play or sing the music properly and still be graded properly. Extended time is another accommodation I use with these students. |

I have had students in the past with learning disabilities. Being a chorus teacher I have found that individualized instruction has worked in helping these students learn new music. This has usually been in an after school tutorial type program. In each situation I found that the individualized assistance was very helpful. |

I have used Nearpod lessons in the past to teach rhythm and note values. the students are able to follow along and participate with their chrome books. I have used grouping when working on parts usually pairing strong singers with those that may be struggling. I have used guided notes when covering music history. |

Most of what I have had for alternate assessments in the past has been oral instead of written for some students with disabilities. I found that the one on one verbal quizzing was more productive for the student whereas the written quiz or exam was not. |
