Students with Disabilities

I have a 4th grade ASD student who cannot focus very well during instruction but is an amazing artist and needs little direction. I seated him towards the back of the room so he has a lot of room to stand and move which helps him focus a bit better. He completes his work, masters the directions and expectations, and is always so excited and comfortable in the art room. |

- Describe how two of the strategies discussed could potentially be implemented in your classroom. Be sure to identify the two strategies by name and describe how they could be used to address the needs of a student with a disability. - The first strategy that I use with students in my classroom is task cards and graphic organizers (first, then, last). Both of these strategies really help the communication aspect of teaching and setting expectations.
- Describe at least one way you have used technology to meet the needs of a student with a disability in your classroom. Be sure to describe the specific technology and how it assisted the student with a disability - I have used technology in the form of an IPAD to help some of my students who are non verbal so we can effectively communicate.

- Describe an example of adapted assessment you have successfully used in the fine arts classroom for students with disabilities.
I have many students with ADD/ADHD/ODD and I find that a consistent routine and expectations works wonders for their behavior and attention. I provide modifications as needed and am always first assisting them once a project is started. Preferential seating, extra time, and a buddy to help them when needed is always provided. |
