I used battery operated scissors (technology) with a student with limited mobility in order to allow him to participate with his peers in a visual art lesson that necessitated cutting with scissors. I have also used low tech options like tearing to achieve the same result. |

I have had multiple students with physical impairments that required the use of adapted tools and adaptations in my instruction in order to allow for them to participate in visual art lessons to the greatest level of independence for each of them. One example is a larger foam hand grip on a paint brush, and moving the paint surface (on a clip board) next to his wheelchair to enable him to paint independently. Also, using rubber covers over fingers for students who do not like the texture of fingerpaint. |

I developed a rubric with visual symbols and samples of various stages of artwork so that non readers were able to identify the lesson goal and objectives at the beginning of the lesson, and then assisted them in individually completing that rubric in an end of lesson review in order to develop self assessment skills. |
