I teach Kindergarten and currently have a student who is on the spectrum. He is constantly disruptive and has difficulty attending to tasks. He walks around the classroom and rarely participates in whole group instruction. His behavior is definitely affecting his academics. We work one on one with him and redirect him with music or stories. We use visuals and a positive behavior chart to help with his behavior. |

I have used technology with my ASD children. One of my students has difficulty blending CVC words, but he has been using a program called Imagine Learning which has him drag each letter in the shape of a basketball and put it in a basketball net. He is so actively engaged when he is working on this task in class. I have seen that it has helped him when we segment CVC words orally in class. He even mimics throwing the "basketballs" into an imaginary hoop. |

I have a student who is labeled developmentally delayed in my classroom this year. He has many challenges. We make sure he has extra time to complete his assessments. He works one on one with a para and he is able to sit or stand while taking his assessments. Sometimes we have to give him encouragement and incentives to answer questions. He is able to take frequent breaks. It was very difficult for him to take assessments in the beginning of the year, but I am seeing he is becoming for receptive to the assessment. |
