I have a student with difficulty in fine motor skills. When it comes to drawing or painting. I adjust the project so that the student can try a few different ways to allow them to succeed at the skill. It could be to try larger tools, brushes or pencils. Or it could even be to allow them to use cut materials and create a collage of the project. I try an gauge their emotional response to the choices and ask them how they would like to create for that day. Sometimes, they want to try the smaller tools first and then we can try other tools for the best fit for the student.

I have a student who has an emotional disturbance and she has difficulty completing art assignments. She very get defiant and refuses to work. She has a hard time trusting peers and adults. I allow her to complete small parts of the bigger project and sit with her and let her tell me stories or have conversation. I have noticed that she will get more of the project done when she feels that she can trust I care about what she is saying. I have even have her tell me about her color or pattern choices.

2. Think of an art student with a disability you have now (or have had in the past). Identify their disability. Review the Alternative Assessment Checklist and select two or more options that could potentially benefit this student in assessing his or her visual arts learning.
I have a one to one ipad school. This allows me to incorporate technology into lessons. I use this assessment for students that have difficulty with fine motor skills. They are able to complete different types of artwork through a sketchbook app. Sometimes this is a tool I would use for my students who struggle with fine motor skills or pencil and paper. I can also allow them to see how they can trace a basic shape or add a basic shape. This give them a tremendous boost and willingness to try new a more difficult art skill.

2. Describe at least one way you have used technology to meet the needs of a student with a disability in your art classroom. Be sure to identify or describe the specific technology and the student's disability.
I use technology often to help students who struggle with understanding the steps to a project. I have used sketchbook to help students understand the use of a background, a silhouette, scale. These are very easy to help students see the visual vocabulary. When we say it's in the background and we can move a layer behind an image they see the vocabulary in action. I often also combine a few pieces of paper to help with the concept of layering. Moving papers up and down in a stack.
