I have a 3rd gifted student with a vision deficiency. He is very talented at drawing. I worked with administration, his parent and the ese department to develop an IEP so that this student would receive assistive technology. The student sits as close to the front board as possible, and text size is increased so that it large enough for him to view.

For my students with disabilities who struggle when drawing an animal or object I like for them to watch video on how to draw the outline of the animal or object on their I-Pads,. This helps them see the step by step process without getting frustrated and keeps them engaged. They don't miss any of the steps as they can pause and rewind the video. I will also use the document camera for close up drawing techniques. Several of my student struggle with the details. On the document camera I can model for the entire class and they can view it on a larger screen. I have a student with ADD who I like to use tasks cards with. The cards break each task down into a small, manageable pieces. When he has completed one task, he can then move on at his own pace. Often when explaining the lesson to the whole class I do not reach that student who work well with smaller tasks.

Describe an example of adapted assessment you have successfully used in the fine arts classroom for students with disabilities.

One adaptive art strategy assessment that I use is providing flexibility seating and with materials and tools. This particular student struggles with sensory processing and fine motor skills. Created a sensory bin where the student can experience each texture before choosing one for their art work. I ordered some silver lead mop brushes as they have a bulbous handle and are easier to grasp along with large grips to slip over this handle brushes and pencils. The student is allowed to go to an area of the room that has only minimal items in that area so they are not so distracted by others.
