Several years ago, I had a student with orthopedic impairments who took my high school level keyboard class. While she did have some use of her hands and fingers, we brain-stormed ways to modify her piano playing. For example, she couldn't use her pink and ring finger independently in her left hand, so I adjusted the musical score so that she could play the same basic chords without having to separately play those two fingers. |

Describe at least one way you have used technology to meet the needs of a student with a disability in your art classroom. Be sure to identify or describe the specific technology and the student's disability. Share your response in the threaded discussion.

In my keyboard classes, I allow all of my students to utilize their iPads to help them learn their music via apps, YouTube, etc. I primarily teaching music reading with standard notation, but having extra digital resources allows students to check their understanding/performance during their independent practice. I have found this approach to be helpful for students who have ADHD. |

Last year I had a student with a specific learning disability and who had an IEP. Her IEP called for extended time and reduced questions on assessments if needed. Throughout the year, I adapted assignments and assessments to allow for her to answer fewer questions, while maintaining the integrity of teaching to the standard. |
