I love to integrate technology into my instruction. With so many pieces of technology available, it's easy to help students with technology programs. I love to use BLOOKET. It covers the visual, audio, and scaffolding techniques. It also gamifies the lesson being covered and offers an edge of competition. I also use FlipGrid so students begin feeling comfortable filming themselves and responding to others as the offer necessary feedback and critiques. |

There are so many great ways to adapt assessments in the fine arts classroom for students with disabilities. The first thing I always do is get to know my students. When I know them and have built a relationship, I can figure out the best way to adapt a lesson and assessment. I usually ask what that student feels comfortable with and then develop scaffolding that will both challenge him/her and see if they have learned mastery. All of my students learn about proper audience etiquette. They are to encourage each other and promote a positive learning environment. |

Students With Disabilities

I have an autistic student that has other disabilities. She has been my student for the past three years. She has a habit of going through spurts of energy where she runs around the class mixed with other moments of inability to participate. I think it's been incredible that we've been together this long because I have really been able to understand her mannerisms and habits and work with them. When she is able to work, we work. She is always happy to help and has received many accolades from our school and community about her participation in roles she's performed and technical theatre abilities. In our last show, she became overstimulated and began to cry. The show was only ten minutes from going on. Her fellow cast and crewmates sprang into action and created a space for her to collect herself and start the show. Sometimes we have to help classmates help each other. It was a beautiful moment I will never forget. |
