Think of a student with a disability you have now or in the past. Describe ways in which their disability affected their learning in your class.

I currently have a student who is in kindergarten who was recently diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). He had difficulty staying in his assigned seat and could not use classroom art materials appropriately. In addition, he struggled with following directions and most of the time required additional assistance. This student now has a paraprofessional who assists him and he has excelled and improved so much because of this additional support.

Describe at least one way you have used technology to meet the needs of a student with a disability in your classroom. Be sure to describe the specific technology and how it assisted the student with a disability.

I currently have a student with a Specific Learning Disability as well as ADHD. This student really benefits learning from lessons I record during instruction using the Ladibug device. This student replays the recorded lesson to complete his art work. I have found that the other students benefit from the Ladibug recordings as well.

Describe an example of adapted assessment you have successfully used in the fine arts classroom for students with disabilities.

At the end of a color mixing lesson, I give most of the students a written assessment with questions such as "Red + Blue = ? (purple)" For the students who learn best with visual and auditory cues, I provide them with cards with the colors and read the questions as I present the cards. By doing so, this ensures that each student is able to participate in this lesson and helps me reflect on what I should teach the students moving forward.
