I have a student that has mobility issues with her legs. She can walk and move but needs the assistance of a walker. One of the ways I make sure to accommodate her is by letting her participate in music making that has limited movement. For example during my class if we are playing instruments I would get a student to bring the instrument over so she would not have to move. With movement activities I would make sure to do movements that included the upper body as much as possible. |

I had a student that had a visual impairment. During a written/multiple choice assessment, the accommodations I provided was to read all the questions for the student and let the student tell me their answers. |

So with the 2nd option, I can recall a time when I was doing an assessment in my music class with the use of iPads. This worked really well because I had a student with a mobility issue and he had limited use of his limbs. He was able to be successful at this assessment because I made the assessment multiple choice where the student could just select the answer by touching the screen. This made it so the student didn't have to physically write the answer. I had great success with this, but most of all the student was extremely successful. |

I had a student in the past that had a disability where she was not able to use her hands due to an accident. This student also had an aide that traveled with her to her classes. I made use of the technology in my classroom. I have a class set of iPads. I took my written assessment and configured it to multiple choice for the student. The student was able to read each question and tell her aide each answer and the aide was able to assist her in answering the questions. It turned out to be a successful accommodation for the student. |

I had a student that had an orthopedic impairment where the student can't walk without the use of a walker. She is now in 2nd grade, but when I had her in my class. I would have to be mindful during music activities that involved movement. I would either have to come up with a differentiated way of doing activities for the student where she could participate or not do them at all just to keep things fair. |
