My school has an IND unit. I teach students with intellectual disabilities many caused by traumatic brain injuries. These disabilities often affect my students' abilities to use art tools and complete lessons on grade levels. I use adaptive tools that allow them to access paintbrushes, scissors, pencils and coloring tools. Although students are exposed to grade-level art lessons, I assess them using the Florida Sunshine Standards Access points which are designed to give students with cognitive disabilities access tot the standard curriculum. |

One way I use technology in my classroom is to record my lessons. I chunk the lessons into specific tasks and make recordings. The recordings are posted in my Google Classroom. Students with specific learning disabilities who need additional time or practice may use IPads to access the lessons to review the and practice strategies at their own pace. That way they don't have to worry about remembering all the components at once. The chunks break the lesson into smaller digestible bites that help students eventually get to the same successful end. |

I have a student with Emotional/Behavioral disabilities which sometimes makes it difficult for her to sit still to show her learning. I used vote with your feet games to assess learning. I put questions on the board based on our learning goal and this student and others move to the corner with the corresponding number of their answer choice. I can see who is learning, provide immediate feedback without having her sit and write, which is known to trigger her elopement behavior. |
