Think of a student with a disability you have now, or have had in the past. Identify their disability. Describe the way in which their disability affected their learning. Describe at least one or more ways you successfully accommodated or modified instruction for this student. Share your response in the threaded discussion.
I have mostly worked with kindergarten students. Developmentally Delayed is the most common disability I have encountered. When working with students who are DD, I have found it helpful to perhaps provide templates, limit the number of steps required to complete the work and/or to provide different tools or materials for the student to use. For example, using paint sticks for painting activities. |

Describe at least one way you have used technology to meet the needs of a student with a disability in your classroom. Be sure to identify or describe the specific technology and the student's disability. Share your response in the threaded discussion.
Google Classroom and Screencast-O-Matic are helpful in assisting students who are Homebound/Hospitalized. Screencast-O-Matic is a screen capture tool that allows the students a great opportunity to really hone in on the techniques I'm using. I feel this allows the students to get even better view and to obtain more detail than they might if they were actually sitting in the classroom with me. |

Assessment of Learning

Think of a student with a disability you have now (or have had in the past). Identify their disability. Review the Alternative Assessment Checklist and select two or more options that could potentially benefit this student in assessing his or her learning. Share your response in the threaded discussion. I generally grade our art projects based a rubric which would assess whether or not the students learned the expected art skills for the assignment. Last school year, I had a fourth grade student with an Emotional/Behavioral disability. I used a different rubric for him with more emphasis on his behavior and effort rather than on solely the particular art skills he gained throughout the project. |
