Students with Disabilities

A former student of mine has cerebral palsy. He was unable to do things such as sit on the floor to play certain instruments or do activities that required prolonged standing or moving. If the activity required all the students to sit on the floor, he was able to sit in a chair and play the same instruments. If the lesson required moving or prolonged standing, he was once again able to sit in a chair and perform the same activities (modified) as the other students. |

One strategy I would use would be reciprocal teaching when teaching a new concept. When you are doing this you can use another strategy, peer partners to pair a student who may have a disability with a student who can assist them and they can operate as one partner in the group. |

A former student was visually impaired. The two assessment accommodations I used with her were larger print of the assignment (different editions) and preferential seating so she could more easily see the music notes I had drawn on the board. |
