I have a student in my caseload, CM, who is awesome and desires to do well. CM is diagnosed with ADHD and Epilepsy. He faces challenges on a daily basis to follow classroom procedures within the general education setting. His ESE services are provided to him through the support facilitation model. CM's disability affects his progress in the general education classroom by presenting him with challenges in the areas of impulse control, recalling previously taught information, following directions, and attending to task long enough to demonstrate his understanding. |

Technology has been utilized as an amazing tool for learning for my students with disabilities. One specific way I utilized technology just this week was to provide a student with the opportunity to create a web in a Word document to demonstrate their understanding of the 16th Street Baptist Church in Birmingham in 1963. My student was fatigued, distractible, and understandably frustrated after having a seizure in the morning before school according to parents. While his peers wrote a 3 paragraph essay about their learning I allowed my student to research the bombing on google and then use photos, text boxes, quotes from a historical fiction novel he read about the event, etc to create a web of information. He was thankful for the option of how to demonstrate his understanding, and I was thankful for access to technology to be able to help him succeed in accomplishing the task and allowing me the opportunity to help other students in the classroom as well. |

An alternative/adapted assessment that was developed for one of my students in 7th grade art was great. The teacher specifically reached out to me for help to develop an alternative way to check for understanding of the principals of art. The general education peers of the student completed a simple paper copy multiple choice and short answer response test while my student matched printed out (index card sized) visual representations/copies of works of art and matched them to their "definition" to answer about the most prominent principals of art present in the work of art. |
