Students with Disabilities

I had an autistic student in my class. When we would begin to work on a project that involved many parts, he would become overwhelmed. He would get upset over the movement, loudness, and speed at which the lesson was moving. It was hard for him to focus and he would shut down. I let him choose who he wanted to work with. I gave him and his choice student a quite part of the room and simplified just one part I wanted them to focus on. Even this sometimes was too much. Usually, once given the safe space to work and think, it was fine. |

I have used my Recordex board for a student that had a visual disablility. She could not see the books or the writing on the white board even if I wrote extremely large. By allowing her to work on the recordex, she could be fully engaged in a lesson, book, etc. She would sit at the board or stand and tap while using headphones. This way she could work and the others were not disrupted. The recordex is a huge bonus for all visual learners and I love to share with all my students on there daily.. |

Assessment of Learning

i have used exit tickets and journal entries in the past. These informal assessments help me quickly monitor understanding. The journals are great because they can draw what they are trying to say. I will give feedback on each entry and if needed write what they are trying to express above their work. Both are simple, effective, and work well in a range of classroom/learner situations. |
