A few years back, I had a student who was visually impaired. He loved my music class though. He was always excited to come in and learn about different instruments and to hear music. I always modified my lessons to accommodate him. I made sure that if we had a movement activity in the room that he had a partner/aid to assist him. I always tried to enhance my music class/lessons to ensure that he would be fully engaged. I made sure that my lessons were a fun sensory experience with hearing sounds/music and touch. |

I have been fortunate to have ipads accessible in my music room. One year, I had a student who could not hold a recorder due to his disability, when we were learning to play. I had him and a group of peers use a piano app on the ipad to play along. This allowed him to still participate in our music learning and playing. |

I had a student a few years back with a learning disability. His accommodations include oral presentation of items on tests or assignments and to have visual aids. This allowed me to make sure that when I planned I was always conscious of accommodating my lessons and activities for him. When we had a quiz or test in class I always made sure that he was read each question and answer choice. In my lessons, I always added visuals that would help him stay engaged and to enhance his learning and understanding of the lesson. |
