I had a student who had a 504 for ADHD who was easily distracted. I moved the a student near my desk and assigned him a peer buddy who sat next to him and kept him on task. The student's energy was rechanneled and he engaged more with the class.

I have computers in my classroom. At times, in order to reinforce a lesson, I've been able to have students with special needs type notes, create a contract, or do a pro con list.These are some of the methods I've used technology so that these students can express themselves, organize their work or complete an assignment.

I once had a student on the autism spectrum. He would get frustrated when the workload became too much. I came to realize he just needed a break and would allow him to step outside with a book in the hallway for a few minutes to avoid a class interruption. I assigned a peer buddy, a girl in class he was friends with, to accompany him and help him get caught up. This worked very well with him.
