Students with Disabilities

I have a first grade student with E/BD that stands on his desk, throws his art supplies on the floor, knocks his chair over, and generally does not do his art assignment. I found that by giving him a respected position in the class (that of door holder) and also praising him on his art, he concentrates and does a wonderful job of his asignment and does not portray any of the adverse behavior. |

Shery L Diaz - One way I use technology with students with disabilities is to allow them to use their laptops to research a topic on Art or an Artist that we are discussing, and then they can independently find facts about this art topic or about the artist. They then can use Note-taking to document pertinant information regarding the above. I grade on their efforts, rather then just achievement They love being independent and using the computer for fact-finding. |

When a student has a visual disability, I seat that student close to the white board. I print very large and in different colors on the board. When creating visual ideas for an art lesson, again I make them large and colorful and simple as well. I create art lessons that allow a student to understand the Standard but work at their own pace and expertise at the same time. |
