Students With Disabilities

I currently have a student that is hearing impaired in 2-D advanced class. It is recommended that she wear hearing aids but often times does not. When I provide instructions for all students I make sure to give visual guides and when speaking and demonstrating about the process I place myself near or in front of this hearing impaired student. She is good at reading lips and repeating the instructions back to me and her classmates. I often times place another student near her work space. I also make sure that my formative assessments are on a daily basis and offer her individual suggestiions. She is a very visual learner, has received several art awards, and is always improving her ideas and skills. |

Describe how technology is used to meet the needs of a student with a disability in your classroom.
I utilize a document camera to demonstrate for all students a process of drawing such as perspective drawing but I have a student that is deaf that seems to benefit from seeing the steps/process visually. The other part of this process I always take a few minutes to allow students to work on their drawings and I curculate around the classroom and provide formative assessments and remediation. |

Assessment of Learning

I have an ADHD student in a drawing class the I use pre-assessment strategies to see if she has some background knowledge and see where she is at with the skill level. At the conclusion of the lesson I have her do an exit ticket that is a quick drawing of what task she learned that day. She would often keep a sketchbook of before and after so she was able to see what she accomplished. |

Describe how two strategies discussed could be implemented in your classroom. Identify the two strategies by name and describe how they could be used....
Two strageties I would use are peer partners and differentiated learning. I like to partner students up with clay projects and have them problem solve together and allow the student that is without disabilities feel like they can help another student with simple tasks of how to shape and form clay or more involved tasks such as how to properly use a slab roller or other equipment for making a clay project. The other strategy is differentiated learning for the student in a clay class that is not able to complete the task but understands the process I would adjust the assignment to their learning style. |
