I have a student who is on the ASD spectrum who has been in both my history and theater classes over the last 3 years. He is obsessed with details. Once I realized this, I started working with him on scenic design since precision in necessary when designing sets especially for safety concerns. He loves building his models and making sure his painting is just right. He is currently updating his set design for Macbeth to take it to State Conference. |

Option 2: Describe at least one way you have used technology to meet the needs of a student with a disability in your classroom. Be sure to identify or describe the specific technology and the student's disability. Share your response in the threaded discussion.
I have had both a student with visual impairment and a student with limited English speaking abilities. In both cases technology came in handy. For the student with visual impairment I was able to convert her quizzes and tests to digital format where she could enlarge or change the coloring on the document to aid her in being able to read and comprehend the text. For my Japanese student I was able to use Google Translate to provide a copy of any assignments in both Japanese and English to help the student both comprehend the assignments but also to help with developing her English speaking skills. |

Option 2: Think of a student with a disability you have now (or have had in the past). Identify their disability. Review the Alternative Assessment Checklist and select two or more options that could potentially benefit this student in assessing his or her learning. Share your response in the threaded discussion.
I have allowed accommodations including extra time on written assignments such as playwriting which is always done electronically through Google Documents or another typed medium. For performances, I have adapted the performance text for students with speech impairments to involve more non-verbal communication such as pantomime. Students accommodations have also included adapting for my visually impaired students any scripts or allowing for visual rather than written or oral responses on assessments. |
