Assessment of Learning

Adapted assessment One of my classes has 10 ESE students with a variety of disabilities. I have to adapt all of the projects that we do. Some can paint and some only use colored pencil, but everyone participates to their fullest. One student only uses his I pad and therefor I grade his work immediately. Some students are only allowed to stay for a short time so their projects are drastically shortened. The best part is that they all succeed. |

Tools and Strategies

One strategy that has always been successful in my career of 33 years is the buddy system. When I have a student in a wheel chair that needs to get supplies she knows to ask the student next to her to grab 2 of everything so she does not have to try to maneuver the room. Another strategy is the technology teaching tools. Computers in the room are fabulous. Some students really learn better on I pads or tablets. Especially for taking notes and letting them print it out. |

Students With Disabilities

I have a student that can not hold a pencil or anything in his hand to write with. I let him use a I pad to draw, take notes and create with in class. This works very well for him and he is very proud of what he can create. Sometimes other students ask if they can be like him and use the Ipad which makes him feel really good. |
