* Describe an example of adapted assessment you have successfully used in the fine arts classroom for students with disabilities.
I have a student with ODD (Oppositional Defiant Disorder). This student initially says (in almost every assignment/assessment) that they "don't want to do it (the assigned project). The student is young so I give the student a task card with a picture reference for the project for the information that will be assessed, clear verbal instructions, and support throughout the project to ensure they understand what they will be learning from the lesson. I give the student clear guidelines in what the required elements of the project are and clear instructions on what they can add as a "student choice" element in completing the project. I use a lot of positive affirmation and redirection to keep the student on task so they can successfully complete the project.

2. Describe at least one way you have used technology to meet the needs of a student with a disability in your classroom. Be sure to identify or describe the specific technology and the student's disability. Share your response in the threaded discussion.

I have several students with ADHD. I have successfully used Ipad technology - YouTube step-by-step videos, to engage these students in the drawing process. The students are able to start and stop the instructional videos at the pace they need to learn the drawing techniques. Using self pacing on the Ipad also helps students have the extra time they may need to complete the drawing. Completing the step-by-step drawings helps them feel successful in the classroom.

Think of a student with a disability you have now, or have had in the past. Identify their disability. Describe the way in which their disability affected their learning. Describe at least one or more ways you successfully accommodated or modified instruction for this student.

I currently have a students that a behavior/emotional disorder. If the student feels that they are not able to successfully complete the project they will become angry, yell out loud, and bang on their desk in frustration. For this student I break down the assignment into smaller sections that the student can successfully manage and check on them frequently throughout the project. I always try to check on them frequently and use lots of constructive verbal praise and encouragement to help the student from becoming too frustrated. This helps them and the rest of the students that are sitting near them stay positive and on track during art projects.

I have successfully used iPad technology with several students with disabilities. One class assignment was to explore a map of the children's section on the Met Museum of Art website and find a piece that interested them. Students would then share their new knowledge about the art piece with their classmates. One of my ADHD students loved the interactive website (the student could click on the particular art piece they wanted to view and learn about) and they also stayed engaged because they could self pace the amount of time they spent looking at each art piece before selecting the one they would share with the class.

I have a student with ADHD that has difficulty focusing during class. They have lots of energy and get up frequently and walk around the classroom during class. The student has difficulty writing sentences but enjoys drawing so I will ask them to draw a picture of the information/project to be assessed and then answer questions verbally that are related to their drawing. I also give them a place to work on their drawing where they are less distracted and more able to focus and a choice of medium to complete the project if possible.
