Students With Disabilities

I had students before with mental disabilities. They would have hard times following written instructions. So what I did to remedy this was I created video tutorials that show step-by-step instructions on how to make visual arts using 3D software programs. What was helpful about this was not only can they hear my voice as I go over the instructions, but they can also see my recorded computer screen. They can work at their own phase because they can rewind and pause the video anytime in case they get lost. But ofcourse I was also there to help them in case they couldn’t figure out how to solve a specific problem. edited by Corazon Bryant on 7/23/2019 |

Tools and Strategies

1. 1. Two strategies that I can use are the Venn Diagrams and Cubing. I teach Game & Simulation and for the Venn Diagram, I can have students compare and contrast the differences between the production workflow for creating 3D art for games and films. I will provide information on these specific workflows through articles and videos, that way students can choose which one will best suitable for their learning styles. After acquiring information, they can proceed to do the Venn Diagrams by themselves or with a partner and then we can go over them together as a class. For Cubing strategy, I am thinking of printing out 6 different 3D renders of game environments with different types of lighting and mood. Students can then give their perspective on each environment setup and how lighting influences the overall feel of the scene. 2. One way I have used technology to meet the needs of students with disability is by using video tutorials that include closed captions. Using words displayed on computer that describe the audio of a video lesson had tremendously helped those students with hard-of-hearing or deaf. |

Assessment of Learning

For students with disabilities, I assess them through their portfolios. After each lesson, they are to create their own 3D art based on what they have learned. To accommodate these students, I give them extended time to complete the projects. I also give them personal tutoring on concepts they do not seem to grasp in which I show them step-by-step how the process is done through visuals. I think these accommodations were helpful because I have seen tremendous growth from their previous work up to the last one that they have turned in. edited by Corazon Bryant on 7/26/2019 |
