Students with Disabilities

I will be teaching elementary music beginning in August, but I taught high school chorus and theater in the past. I had a student who was legally blind. She had a beautiful voice and tried out for the show choir. Because of her commitment and work ethic, she was able to do all of the dances. I paired her with strong dancers in the group who were confident enough in the moves that they could focus more on working with her. She also came in before and after school to practice. She was definitely an inspiration to the whole group! |

Tools and Strategies

Two strategies that I plan on using this year are cooperative learning groups and centers.
The cooperative learning groups will allow the children to work together specifically to create things like rhythms and melody lines.
The centers will be used to review what the students have been learning throughout the week.
Both of these strategies will allow me to work one on one with students who are struggling as well as give opportunities for the students to help each other. |

Assessment of Learning

I will begin teaching this year after several years away and this will be my first year of elementary music but this is my plan. We will do listening every day as the children enter the classroom. They will be asked to analyze the music through different formats such as writing, drawing pictures, and movement which will hopefully allow all students to participate with the same expected outcome. They will also be allowed to work with a peer buddy instead of individually for class performances and different assessments. |
