I had a percussion student a couple of years ago with a stong hearing impairment. He wore hearing aids in both ears. For a time I used a lanyard microphone to assits him, but he saidd he got tired of the heavy breathing and that it picked up my heart beat and noises from brushing my shirt! So we gave up on that. I discovered he was pretty good at lip reading...which only works when he is looking at me. So, I had a hand signal that ll of the percussion understood. When they saw the hand signal, they madde sure he was looking at me and I would give direction. He loved this system! |

I had a young saxaphone player with a hearring imparement. I did not teach her class everydday, but when I did, I used a micrphone lanyard from the vary start of class. This included standing near the speaker when using recorded examples, or moving toward a student model when they were asked to perform, or give verbal feedback. Very helpful. |

I had a class this past year with a number of ADHD students and those who struggled with traditional vocab list. So I created a Quizlet for the same terms and had the students work with a peer. The app allowed for flashcards, matching, and other activities. The combo of working with a peer and with a piecce of tech they love to use raised the exit scores dramaticlly. |
