Students with Disabilities

I have a 4th grade student who is ADHD and it affects his whole experience in my classroom from staying focused and on-task to even staying seated long enough to create anything. I moved that student near me for redirecting. I write lesson steps on the board with visuals so the student can see what is next if they lose their place in the directions.

1. Describe at least one way you have used technology to meet the needs of a student with a disability in your classroom. Be sure to describe the specific technology and how it assisted the student with a disability.
I can think of two specific uses for technology with two students in my classroom. One of my students has a hearing disability. I use a special microphone that hangs from my neck that transmits my voice to his hearing aids. This way no matter where I am in the art room he can hear me. I have another student who has a speech problem. She doesn't speak and uses a tablet with pictures, text, etc. that she can write out what she wants to say and it will say it. This helps with our communication.

I have a student with a visual impairment. When I assess this student in written form, I give them a adapted handout with extra large print so they can read it easily without struggling. They also use a colored overlay to help as well.
