Students with Disabilities

I currently have a kindergarten student with ASD and LI. He is able to complete projects well, but needs monitoring and frequent refocusing to complete tasks in sequence. He tends to get caught up in one part of a task where he will lose his focus at which time I need to verbally reiterate the instruction, a peer does so (we use Kagan structures), or I re-demonstrate the transition to the next step. I have examples visible for him, with steps. |

I currently have a 3rd grader with ASD and LI. Using the Artsonia app on an IPad together with a visual rubric the student evaluates his work for craftsmanship-he assigns himself the number of points he feels he achieved based on comparing his work to the rubric. Peer partners additionally rate each other's work on the rubric. The student reflects on his work and types a 3 sentence artist statement on the IPAD in the artsonia classroom app to explain how he used an element and a principle in his work. I check the artist statements and I am able to send him additional questions or comments that are only visible to him to scaffold so that he achieves an appropriate response. All students do this to complete their assignments so I am able to see quickly who needs what and provide what is needed |

My 4th grade students explain how they used an element and a principle in each artwork they create. My student has LI and SI. In order for him to complete this assessment, I provide a station which is available to anyone in the class, near my desk where no other students are working on artwork. It is quiet and there is a text with tabs for students to reference with elements and principles. The elements and principles are given pictorially and a brief written explanation is provided. Ipads are available as well for the student to type his response. I am able to check his response through the Ipad and ask further questions if needed until he has achieved the goal. This interaction is only visible to him. |
