I taught a 7th grade student in a wheel chair. In class I paired her up with students who would help her problem solve and movement activities we did.
The kids would "fight" over who got to help her and she loved that! Then she gained the confidence to audition for our musical. I cast her in the ensemble and we figured her wheel chair in to the choreography! The audience loved it! Because of this, she took theatre a second time and continued to be involced!

I had a student who was not only hearing impaired but also ESOL. Through the use of Google translate on an Ipad and the in class mic system the student was only able to fully participate but became so engaged that he would volunteer to give examples of performance in front of the class!

I had a student with severe dyslexia but was an incredible performer!
I gave the student the script and materials 30 days prior to everyone else.
I recorded the lines and sent an MP3 to her phone. I also assigned her a "cast buddy" to
help her review lines.
She did amazing

I find that in theatre written assessments work only in certain circumstances so I prefer to use oral tests or even visual assessments.
I find this is beneficial even with students without disabilities. It gives everyone a variety and they respond much more positively. It also seems
to make everyone feel as if they are on a level playing field.

In my theatre and musial theatre classes my kids love to use the Ipads to participate in a KAHOOT. Sometimes we even "act" out a game show!
Everyone feels involved and my SWD have so much fun being paired up with an "Ipad buddy" to help them! I also frequently use VENN DIAGRAMS. The kids love "creatively argue" over their choices.

I use several forms of technology from IPads to the FM hearing system with my hearing impaired students.
These work very well but can be difficult on performance days. We always make it work.

I have found in theatre that I have students assess each other as an alternative. They learn so much from each other.
I am able to use technology for assessments as well as oral.

I had a student with a serious Autism Spectrum diagnosis.
My students rallied around him. It took a lot of buddy work.
In the end he played a large role in my musical and went on to high school
to be in performances all 4 years!
