While working with a 4th grade student I noticed that they had a very hard time sitting in their seat, focusing on tasks and being able to listen as I gave instruction. This student had a student with ADHD. To help this student I gave them a lot of extra time to complete tasks. I also chunked the information for the student. I checked in with the student often during art projects. I seated this student very closely to me and I praised the student directly for accomplishments.

Two Strategies I could use would be Semantic Maps and Venn Diagram.
Semantic maps can be used to talk about key vocabulary words such as warm colors with the outer circles used for naming the warm colors.
Venn Diagram can be used to compare and contrast different types of sculptures
These are very useful for visual learners and for students who need an example as they work

I use peer partners in my class all the time. I have a lot of students who love to teach others in the classroom this allows me to walk around and help more students during a lesson. I also do small group instruction for projects that are more complex. This allows me to help students more closely and to make sure they understand all of the concepts in a project

I currently have a student with ASD. This student needs a lot of support to do many tasks. I use a portfolio to show the students growth in art class. at the beginning of the year he would not participate. He then began to draw some of the items. Slowly you could see his progression and participation on the art room projects.

Two accommodations I have used with my students are extra time for test taking and reading the test questions to the students. Extra time helps the students to process the information. And reading the test helps my students who are dyslexic.
