One of my students in the second grade was Visually impaired/blind. He had a one on one para who came to every art class. I made some frames with wire screening in them. When we would do a drawing activity I would tape his paper to the screen so he could feel his crayon or marker going over the paper and it also created a bit of texture so he could "feel" his drawings. When we would be talking about shapes or textures in an artists work I would also provide maipulatives (spheres, cubes, "fluffy things, smooth etc...) to help him visualize what we were looking at. |

In my art classroom I have used the smart board technology for students to do a hands on Venn Diagram when comparing 2 works of art. The students can slide their choices to each circle or even write new ones if they choose. They love the hands on approach. |

I had a class where there was child with E/BD. I started off with him at the round tables with the others but it was very disruptive to everyone. I had the principal bring me a desk with divider panels and used it as my teacher helper station and his desk with the "Show me the Mona Lisa" poster I had made for listening behavior in clear view in front of him. Over time he was so engaged in art class and knew epected behaviors that for some lessons he did go sit at the tables with the others, but he did go to the other desk when a "loud" activity was going on. Many of the other students always asked to sit there also which made him feel good about it. |
