I have several students who are non-verbal in a self-contained class (SVE) - I use the SMART board and a game where the students see pictures of 3-4 instruments and plays an example of one of them - The students come up to the board to choose the instrument they hear and drag the picture of the instrument to the sound circle - This way they are being able to show me that they identify the sound clip to the instrument picture. |

I have a self-contained SVE class with several non-verbal students - We are learning to read simple stick rhythms with the verbal students reading the simple rhythm out loud to the class - The non-verbal students point out notes as I say them like ti-ti they point to the ti-ti and ta they point to all tas. |

1. The strategy of self-reflection for a comprehension check could be accomplished by using "ticket out the door" and having the student write the definition to a new term learned to show they understand the term. After I have reviewed them I could correct misunderstanding during the next time I see them. 2. I have used "Peer-Partners" when asking the students to compose rhythms and make sure that each of my students that struggle are partnered with the high level students to create a teaching situation within the pair. |
