Some of my favorite students that I teach are the EBD students. I know that some of them are easily distracted and prone to get angry quickly, so I try to keep a calm classroom. I am very adaptable and when I see a student getting close to a meltdown, I try to provide additional assistance by allowing them to do the project in a different way, providing them with alternative materials or allowing them to restart if necessary. I do have one student who at the same time wants help but wants to do the project by himself, so I have to be careful when I help him, so that I give him and myself a feeling of success. |

I always try to use a calm voice with my ESE students. I also balance the amount of help that I give them. I want them to feel successful and that they did the work not me. |

In my classroom sometimes I will show my EBD students simple step by step art videos with lessons that keep them engaged. This is a kind of chaining. I can pause the video when necessary. But the best part is that I can keep watch on the students while they are actively engaged. And if I see any problems developing, I can be on it quicker without disrupting the other students. |

I had a student who had fine motor problems with his hands, so I purchased larger pencils and paint brushes for him. It helped him in manipulating much better and he was able to feel successful. |
