Students with Disabilities

I had a fifth grade student who had a physical disability, this being one hand which had less fingers than the other. The class was studying recorders at the time and learning to play them. In order for this student to be successful, an adaptive recorder was purchased, using fine arts funds, for the student to use. Because the fingering layout of this particular recorder was so different, I had to learn to play a similar one, which I purchased with my own money. You do what you have to do for every child to succeed. |

The technology I have used in my classroom is Mimio vote. Students have clickers which they use to answer a question for an assessment. The answer registers in Mimio and I can see it immediately. I pair students together to do the assessment and this helps with those who need the extra help and encouragement from their peers. |

I had a 3rd grader with a visual disability. When we did a note reading assessment, I put the designated notes on larger cards for the student. This helped her immensely and solved the problem. |
