I had a student who orthopedic impairment. His hands were curved, he couldn't straighten out his fingers, and had very little strength in his wrists/hands. Most of the band instruments would have been difficult for him to hold, so he played mallets and snare. His was very successful playing mallets/snare and was able to strengthen his hands/wrist in doing so. |

- Differentiated Assignments - sectionals allow more time for students to practice their parts and also get more individualized help from the teacher as well as their peers.
- Mnemonic Instruction/Letter Strategy - remembering the note names on the lines/spaces for treble/bass clef or the order of sharps/ flats.

- Option 1 - I had a student who had a disease that caused her to miss a lot of school, though she was never considered hospital/homebound. She played trumpet, but her range and embouchure suffered because she didn't have a lot of fact time with the instrument. She could review her music at home to learn the notes and rhythms, so or her tests, I had her sing and finger on her trumpet.
